Pompeii: The New Dig wins the Jury Prize at FAB!

We’re thrilled to share that Pompeii: The New Dig , our three-part BBC Two series produced by Lion Television, has won the Jury Prize at the FAB Archaeological Film Festival in Italy.

Directed by Elena Mortelliti, the film was praised by the jury, chaired by Giovanni Calvino, “for the sensitivity and mastery with which it brings the daily life of the excavation to the screen, restoring humanity and narrative centrality to the women and men who work there.”

The series follows archaeologists at the Pompeii Archaeological Park as they uncover extraordinary new finds, including an ancient bakery, a noble residence, and a fresco believed to depict an ancestor of modern pizza. Filmed in real time, the documentary gives voice to those working on one of the world’s most fascinating archaeological sites, revealing the human stories buried beneath the volcanic ash of 79 AD.
