Which Is Better? Petrol vs. Electric

Buckle up and hands on the wheel for the race to end all races... it’s petrol vs electric cars. It’s a hot debate with us all being pushed down the electric lane, but are the sparky new kids on the block up to scratch to take over from old trusty petrol cars?  

Over a series of challenges, we put the teams to the test. Uncovering the pitfalls and surprising highs of an electric car's modern technology, along with finding out if petrol cars are holding strong or if they are just out of date.  

Getting down to business, the most important thing for us all is the cost. Auto Journalist Erin Baker takes a spin in the capital to say which side is cheaper for city life. While motor man Tim Roadie takes us to a used car dealership to show us how the cost to buy compares and if there is ever a world when buying electric could be as cheap as petrol.  

The biggest fear for prospective electric car drivers is to run out of battery and be left without a hard shoulder to cry on. We task father and daughter Colin and Becci to put this to the test and race on a 100 mile day trip. Will Becci's electric car surprise us all or will this be an easy win for Colin in his petrol.    

We find out from an electric vehicle mechanic exactly what is going on under the bonnet. Then head to a proper racetrack to see how top of the range petrol and electric cars perform. Which can get off the mark quicker, and which is just the overall choice on performance in a test drive?
